genuine love to self

Love to self! Today is Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day is not a big celebration day for me. I do like to be in contact with  my daughter, Megan Ellen, on that day and send her my love (as always).

Today I happened to be in a local coffee shop. As a Valentine’s Day treat, they offered free food and a station to decorate a mug to give to a loved one for the occasion. As I savored my lunch, I decided to paint a cup for myself.

Genuine love of self is a blessing, a gift. It is often difficult for individuals to love ourselves in healthy ways. This hindrance to loving oneself is often too true for survivors of abuse and/or torture.

Note to self …

I enjoyed using my child-like artistic ability to draw on a white mug with permanent Sharpies. It was fun to be creative. There was a freedom in knowing that the receiver of this simple gift (me!) would not be judgmental or critical.

Envelopes and small sheets of paper were available.  “Why not use the paper and envelope?” I thought. I wrote a note to self. What a gift it was to sit and write a few paragraphs of loving thoughts. Love to self! I put my note and mug into the pink bag provided. Later, I will give myself the little present.

I left the coffee shop feeling lighter and feeling loved. It was a precious experience.

“ ‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free

‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,

And when we find ourselves in the place just right,

‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.”

Sometimes people can feel they are exactly where they are supposed to be at a certain moment in time. That is how I felt on this Valentine’s Day. Peace and love filled my heart – and a glimpse of joy appeared!

My wish for you, the reader, is that your heart be filled with peace, love and joy today and each day!

If you wish, one day when you intuit the moment is right, provide a gift of love to self. Find a concrete, physical method. Use your creativity. Keep it simple and short. Don’t dwell on it. Don’t analyze. Let your heart and Spirit move you.

Love …

You deserve love …

Love to self!
